Your Yoga Mats!
Help Community Yoga Collect Props
WE NEED MATS! This month we are
collecting used and new yoga mats for the Community Yoga project.
Since early November, Community
Yoga has been offering three classes per week on-site at the
Center. These classes are well received by our homeless
neighbors and usually have at least 10 to 15 participants.
Debbie George of Yoga For Life, Steve Knight of Yoga One and
Cathy Corey of Empower Yoga & Fitness have been wonderful
teachers. This yoga program is proving to be very
transformational in the lives of the homeless men and women that
it serves.
Community Yoga is now at the point
where they are ready to move the program to the next level. They
will be creating an interactive website for the program linked to
those yoga studios involved in this yoga ministry. They will be
conducting a PR and marketing campaign to inform the community at
large about this wonderful effort to seek its support. And, they
will be expanding the program to other sites, possibly including the
Mens and Womens Shelters, Youth Homes, A Childs Place, The
Relatives, The Shelter for Battered Women and other appropriate
organizations that serve our homeless neighbors.
Bring your mats for the month of May!
Yoga Nidra with Debi
Honor yourself with an afternoon of deep relaxation
Refresh your body , spirit and
practice with a two hour class led by instructor Debi Hawkins-McLendon.
Enliven the body with an hour of asana, followed by a 45 minute
guided relaxation, or Yoga Nidra.
Also known as yogic sleep or
sleep with awareness, Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice that is
rapidly gaining popularity in the West. It is intended to induce
full-body relaxation and a deep meditative state of consciousness.
"We live in a chronically exhausted, overstimulated world," says Los
Angeles yoga teacher Rod Stryker. "Yoga Nidra is a systematic method
of complete relaxation, holistically addressing our physiological,
neurological, and subconscious needs."

An evening of karma yoga for Siegle Ave Preschool
PP helps out with group class and benefit concert!
On June 9th, Peaceful Poses was pleased as punch to take part in a benefit organized by Yoga One. Participants include instructors from Yoga for Life in Dilworth, Sangati Healing Arts, Peaceful Poses Yoga, 8th Street Studio, Yoga South, Yogatopia, and Community House Yoga. The class included 108 sun salutations. To benefit Siegle Avenue Preschool, yogis collected pledges for the number of sun salutes they completed; it was a vigorous and inspiring class. In addition! Yogis and patrons were treated to some delicious snacks served up by beloved Charlotte chef Christopher Zion of Meeting House and Onio fame. At 7:30 WAH! took the stage. For those folks unfamiliar with WAH!, she is a musician known worldwide and especially among the yoga community for her multi-cultural combination of chanting, reggae, and pop. Her music expresses the devotion and spirituality of yoga.
It was a super blast! Yogis really do know how to party, y'all.

What do yoga and gardening have in common? Both promote growth and both um, can produce a slitte soreness. On March 17th, Eastover's own Merri-mints joined Carolyn for a group class to nourish their hardworking gardening bods. You should've seen those tree poses.
